RAYMOND MINKIN With deepest sorrow, his family wishes to announce the sudden passing of Raymond Martin Minkin, beloved husband and father, at St. Boniface Hospital on September 27, 2004. Raymond, 68, is mourned by his adored wife Beverly, son Shane and daughter Randa. Ray was a loving son, husband and father who will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his parents, Ethel and Harold; and his beloved pooch Barfy. Raymond was born on April 18, 1936 and grew up on College Avenue in the North End. He attended Isaac Newton and Faraday schools, as well as the school of hard knocks, where he mastered in billiards. He was a genuine character and a man of many talents, including being able to drive the hardest bargain. Raymond met the love of his life, Beverly Lipchen, in 1957. They were married on June 21, 1959 and spent 45 years wonderful years together, raising their children in the groovy 1960s and 1970s. His family meant the world to him and there was nothing he wouldnt do to make them happy, especially if there was food involved. He was especially proud of his "brother" Shane, through whom he lived vicariously. Ray was a natural born salesman, whose career ranged from childrens shoes (The Bootery) to life insurance and most recently farm coverage with FBC, which he truly enjoyed. He will be remembered for his corny sense of humour, his inexplicable Jeopardy! knowledge, his cool sense of style, his love of Big Band music and his passion for cars. The last year was especially heart-wrenching for Raymond as his family battled health issues. It was simply more than his loving heart could handle. We love you, Raymond! Well miss you! Funeral services were held on September 29 at Shaarey Zedek Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the CNIB, CancerCare Manitoba or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
